USPA NEWS - Georgetown, Penang: The new iconic bridge which is Second Penang Bridge or JK2PP, had been officially launched and officiated by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak with the numbers of 10, 000 People. Prime Minister escort by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor which arrive at the Second Penang Bridge Opening.
The colourful bridge with the historical opening also watching by our former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his wife Tun Jeane Abdullah, also attended by the former chief minister of Penang which is Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu with Menteri Besar of Kedah Datuk Mukhirz Tun Dr Mahathir. Datuk Seri Najib and Datin Seri Rosmah´s arrival was greeted with singing and people of 1M4U with shake hands and take pictures of them. Once the Prime Minister launched the second penang bridge, pearl island sky illuminated with five minutes of fireworks display as a symbol of the opening of the new bridge. After a long awaited period of five years, the new bridge will be opened at 12.0o am tonight to let people see for themselves the unique structure of the bridge and toll plaza, which is said to be the largest in the country with 28 kiosks payment. Bridges over 24 miles to 17 miles across the sea from seven yards on the ground, willboost the state´s economy, especially in the industrial zone of the mainland in Batu Kawan.
In addition to reducing congestion on the Penang Bridge, the bridge that inspired the former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Abdullah realized, will foster social and economic development between Batu Maung on the island and Batu Kawan on the mainland. Mega project costing RM4.5 billion, is operated by a contractor China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd (CHEC) and the Second Link Sdn Bhd (JKSB), the concessionaire for 45 years
